DR. TOM McLEAN
Your Trusted Sunshine Coast Dentist
Tom is not just your dentist; he’s a local through and through. Born and raised on the Sunshine Coast, he has cultivated strong ties to the community that he proudly serves. His journey in dentistry began at the University of Queensland, where he completed his dental studies in 2009. Since then, he’s been in private practice on the Coast, caring for smiles and ensuring lasting oral health for his patients.
Tom found his true dental home in Kuluin in March 2020 when he took the reins of the practice in Indiana Place. Tom’s commitment to his profession goes beyond the clinic walls.
With comprehensive training across all facets of Dentistry, his patients receive not only top-notch treatments but also compassionate attention. His passion for dental implants stands out, and his expertise has been honed through extensive programs with leaders in the field. This special interest reflects his commitment to bringing the latest advancements to his patients, ensuring their smiles are as healthy as they are beautiful. He is a Diplomat in the International Congress of Oral Implantologists, Accredited with the Australian Society Of Implant Dentistry, a graduate of the Misch International Implant Institute and a member of the Australia Dental Association.
Beyond the dental chair, Tom finds joy in family and adventure. He treasures moments with his two nephews. He is an avid traveller, (although there has been a slight hiatus since Covid), and seeks inspiration from the world around him. When he’s not exploring new horizons, you might find him swimming, or hanging by the ocean.

Our Compassionate Oral Health Therapist
Julie’s journey to becoming an indispensable part of the McLean Dental Group family is woven with threads of adventure, dedication, and genuine care. Having spent almost a decade living, working, and exploring remote communities on Cape York, she brought her wealth of experience to the Sunshine Coast, along with her husband and two vibrant young sons.
A proud Queensland graduate, Julie’s oral health journey spans over three decades. Her commitment to the field is evident in her diverse qualifications – she achieved her Dental Therapist status in 1993 and later earned her Dental Hygienist qualification in 1999. With a background that showcases her love for promoting oral health, she is at home as an Oral Health Therapist at McLean Dental Group.
Julie’s aura is a blend of fun, compassion, and care. Her role as an Oral Health Therapist aligns perfectly with her nurturing nature, allowing her to create comfortable and reassuring dental experiences for patients of all ages – from the young ones taking their first dental steps to the seasoned ones seeking continued oral health maintenance.
Julie’s career tapestry is equally vibrant. Her path has intertwined with both public and private sectors, taking her to dental practices in Brisbane, Sydney, Cairns, Cape York, and the Torres Strait. Her rapport with younger patients is unmatched, making her a favourite among the children who visit our practice.
Beyond her professional achievements, Julie’s heart extends to humanitarian work. She has ventured abroad as a volunteer oral health therapist, extending care to children in Indian orphanages. Closer to home, she spearheaded oral health programs in Indigenous community schools and childcare facilities, collaborating with Indigenous Health Workers and child health nurses to uplift oral health awareness within these communities. Her dedication was fittingly recognized when she received a Queensland Health Director General’s Australia Day Award for her unwavering commitment to Indigenous oral health.
Julie’s life outside the clinic is a joyful whirlwind, with two energetic boys who capture her heart and time. Amid the hustle, she finds solace in a good cup of tea and hearty conversations. Julie’s presence at McLean Dental Group enriches our practice, offering a true embodiment of caring, compassion, and dedication. THE SUPPORT TEAM
Most of our friendly support team of dental assistants and front office team have worked with Tom or each other at other practices on the Sunshine Coast over the years. We work well together, care equally about each other and our patients and don’t take it for granted just how lucky we are to be a part of such an amazing and committed team.
